Ålesund - Hjørundfjord - Norangsdalen - Geirangerfjord - Sjøholt - Ålesund
The Royal Fjord Route starts in Ålesund and takes you to the world of fjords.
In one day you will visit two of the most popular fjords in Norway - Hjørundfjord and the UNESCO World Heritage listed Geirangerfjord. Hjørundfjord and Geirangerfjord were popular among kings and queens all the way back in the 1890s. Now it’s your turn to enjoy the beauty of these fjords. Along the route you can also enjoy the magnificent views of mountains, waterfalls and the charming countryside.
The route goes from Ålesund by boat into Hjørundfjord to Øye. The sea and mountain landscape is breathtaking – make sure to be ready with your camera!
You continue by bus through the fascinating Norangsdalen, where there is a short photo stop by the Lyngstøylvatnet lake. The lake was formed by a rock fall from Keipen in 1908. Beneath the waters of the lake, you can still see remains of the old road, the foundations of the farmhouses and the gateway.
The bus then goes on to Hellesylt where you board the ferry that will take you on a cruise in the Geirangerfjord. Steep mountains, charming mountain farms and gorgeous waterfalls are among the sights you can enjoy on this voyage.
You then have some time on your own in Geiranger before the journey continues via the Eagle Road, a hairpin road up the steep valley sides of the Geirangerfjord with a breathtaking view of Geiranger.
Finally, you travel via Eidsdal and Sjøholt to Ålesund, allowing you to experience even more of the fascinating nature in this region.
Departure from: Ålesund express boat terminal/cruise port (by the bus terminal)
About our trips
This trip is a “Travel like the locals” tour by FRAM - the brand for public transport in Møre and Romsdal county. Our “Travel like the locals” tours use the regular FRAM buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)
Trips are not available for booking on public holidays and during holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas due to deviations in the timetables. The timetable shown is valid for the periods when the trip is bookable.
